DIMMU BORGIR's 'Death Cult Armageddon' Surpasses 100,000 Mark According To SOUNDSCAN
January 26, 2006Nuclear Blast Records has announced that Norwegian symphonic black metallers DIMMU BORGIR recently became the first band on the Nuclear Blast USA roster to sell more than 100,000 copies of a full-length album with their "Death Cult Armageddon" release, according to sales figures provided by Nielsen SoundScan.
Released on September 9, 2003, "Death Cult Armageddon" debuted on The Billboard 200 chart at No. 169 and has since received multiple "Best Metal Album of the Year" accolades and had two songs featured in the trailer for the highly successful "Hellboy" movie. Their video for "Progenies of the Great Apocalypse" was voted the fourth "Best Metal Video of the New Millennium" by fans (nominated by MTV2's "Headbanger's Ball" and Revolver magazine) while DIMMU BORGIR also became the first black metal band invited to perform on the main stage at Ozzfest.
To make "Death Cult Armageddon" even more authentic, portions of the album were recorded in the company of the Philharmonic Orchestra Prague, consisting of 46 classically trained musicians. The CD was recorded at Studio Fredman (IN FLAMES, HAMMERFALL) in Gothenburg, Sweden with producer Fredrik Nordström.
As previously reported, DIMMU BORGIR's video for the track "Sorgens Kammer – Del II" has been posted online at NuclearBlast.de (Real Media). The clip was shot last fall in Sweden with director Patric Ullaeus of Sweden's Revolver Film Company.
"Sorgens Kammer – Del II" is one of the new tracks included on the updated, re-recorded version of DIMMU BORGIR's 1996 album, "Stormblåst", which was released in Europe in November via Nuclear Blast Records (to be issued in North America on February 7). The album was completely re-recorded with producer Peter Tägtgren (HYPOCRISY, PAIN) and MAYHEM's Hellhammer on drums.
The new version of "Stormblåst" adds two brand-new audio tracks: the aforementioned "Sorgens Kammer – Del II" and "Abmaktslave", plus a live DVD of an entire set filmed at Ozzfest 2004.
DIMMU BORGIR have begun writing material for their next studio, tentatively due before the end of the year. The CD, which will feature a guest appearance by MAYHEM's Hellhammer on drums, will be "a full story/concept album," according to a posting on the group's web site.
